Guest Speaker 9: Textbook Studio (Vicky Carr)
Victoria Carr is a graphic designer and educator as well as one of the founders of Textbook Studios.
“A studio is a place of study. Use the necessity of production as a place to study, everyone will benefit.”
Victoria Carr
She talked about how she funds her practice, through sponsorships, networking, sharing of equipment, and finding support as a creative through art shops and friends. Also how having a separate studio space is important. Funding your own practice is important and I enjoyed learning about the ways that this can be done. She told us to approach galleries and turn up to events to build a network.
Textbook Studios worked with the final years for their graduate show catalogue last year (2020), and we will be working with them again this year to create an online catalogue of our work called RADAR which we will have to be considering how to publicise for our graduate show this year with Textbook. Also the current pandemic has meant that more things are online, such as ebooks and digital PDF’s that are more in demand than physical books.
